Digvijaya in Kamal Nath corner now, son Jaivardhan takes battle to their common rival, Jyotiraditya Scindia

Jaivardhan insists politics was never the path his father, a past master at the game, wanted him to follow. (Express)

Breaking out of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh’s gravitational pull is not an easy task, as any leader across the state’s political spectrum will attest. In that respect at least, son Jaivardhan Singh can claim to have stepped out of his father’s shadow and carved an identity for himself.

While his father tours the state, visiting district-level Congress workers and taking on the ruling BJP dispensation, Jaivardhan, a two-time MLA, is quietly chipping away at the BJP strongholds of Gwalior-Chambal and Malwa, the playground of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and his followers.

Jaivardhan was in the news recently over the role he played in getting two Scindia loyalists back into the Congress fold. This included Baijnath Singh Yadav, who walked into the Congress leading a 700-car rally in Bhopal on June 14, and Yadvendra Singh Yadav, who joined the Congress in March.

Spanish man sprints 100 metres in high heels, creates world record

Running in heels is no easy task, but for Christian Roberto López Rodríguez from Spain it appears to be a cakewalk. On Friday, the Guinness World Records (GWR) announced that Rodríguez finished the 100-metre sprint in 12.82 seconds while wearing high heels. With this, he has created the world record for the “fastest 100 metres in high heels (male)”.

This record was only 3.24 seconds slower than Usain Bolt’s 100-metre sprint world record made in 2009. The guidelines required Rodriguez to wear a heel that is at least seven centimetres high and only 1.5 cm wide at the tip.

Talking to GWR, he said, “The preparation was very exhaustive and specific. I find it very challenging to be able to run in high heels at high speed. In Spain there are races like this, and they have always gone well for me”. Rodríguez also added that with this record he wants to show that Type 1 diabetics like himself “can do as much or more things than people without diabetes.”
